Sony Lcd TVsSony Lcd TVs, Sony recalled 1.6 million on Wednesday Bravia liquid crystal display (LCD) TV sets sold worldwide since 2007 to rectify a faulty component that can make it melt or catch fire, but the electronics giant Global consumption has no plans to recover any Bravia LCD TVs sold in India, a company spokesman said Wednesday the business line.

Citing a report from the media, an industry source said the company has announced a ‘recovery’ in Japan and is expected to announce one in the U.S. and Europe on Thursday. However, there is no plan to get their products sold in India, but to arrange a free inspection request.

A spokesperson for Sony India, the affected models are KLV-40W300A & KLV-40X350A. Responding to a question from this correspondent, the spokesman sent a brief statement: “It has come to our attention through reports in Japan, which on rare occasions, a specific component built into some models of 40-inch Bravia LCD TVs, most launched between 2007 – 08, was damaged and “as a result, it may overheat and burn inside, sometimes the TV, possibly fusion of a portion of the roof of the cabinet due to heat.

In addition, says Sony India has sold 3,200 units of these models between 2007 and 2008. “If you ask, the company offers a free inspection of the affected products. Someone Sony service will soon visit and inspect and repair if a faulty component is free of charge.”

A Sony India official on condition of anonymity, said that about 10 incidents have been reported in Japan since 2008. “But in India, so far we have not received any complaints.”

Sony is the biggest player behind Samsung in the segment of flat screen TV (FPD) in India. And, with 35 percent share of total sales FPD, Bravia is a flagship of the company.
