Ap Poll

September 7, 2010 by · Comments Off on Ap Poll

Ap Poll, Oklahoma, Florida and Texas had problems in the season debuts as a result the Sooners and Gators take on the chin in the polls. Florida falls four spots to # 8 and falling down three Sooners to # 10. Meanwhile, Texas, who seemed anything but part of a world beater survived the storm and remained strong at # 5. Not only that, but someone out there thought the Longhorns looked like the best team in the nation on Saturday and get your reward stuffed in the goal line to Rice with a first-place vote. Hmmmmm orange … Kool Aid too do that to you.

The big winners of the weekend in the survey were the Broncos of Boise State, which stayed at # 3 since picked up eight first place votes and TCU who jumped into the Top 5 at # 4. Thoughts?

Boise State Virginia Tech

September 6, 2010 by · Comments Off on Boise State Virginia Tech

Boise State Virginia Tech, Boise State has only one player selected in the last two drafts – corner back Kyle Wilson in the first round this year.

But the Broncos are no longer just a team with a few NFL prospects and players that fit a system. This year the Broncos have at least five players who can get picked when they are in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Conversely, Virgnia Tech has at least one player drafted every year since 1994, but only a first rounder since 2005. Unless redshirt sophomore Ryan Williams decided to go pro after this season, will still be a season without a first rounder.

Individually, Williams is the best draft prospect in the game today. He showed in 2009 that he was a strong but agile runner can break big plays. If he gets the chance, he would be a real workhorse. But if he has a chance to be seen. Virginia Tech has always had a bevy of running backs. Coming back from injury last year starter Darren Evans. He is not as explosive as Williams, but he has an NFL future.

If the best player is not Williams, it’s Boise State offensive lineman Nate Potter. He is often compared with former Bronco Ryan Clady. Like Clady, Potter’s footwork is excellent. However, this year he will be monitored and reevaluated.

Boise also has one of the best wide receiver duos in the nation in Titus Young and Austin Pettis. Young is the most dynamic of the two and the name will make in the NFL in the slot and on special teams. Pettis are not as fast, but he has more size and is at his best when he gets vertical.

Two solid mid-round corner backs in Brandyn Thompson (Boise State) and Rashad Carmichael (Virginia Tech) are worth watching tonight. Carmichael course, have more chance to show his talent against Boise’s passing attack, but Thompson gets to show his all-round skill.
