Bob Barry Oklahoma, Oklahoma has long been a sportscaster and sports director Bob Barry KFOR Mr. died Sunday, KFOR news director Mary Ann Eckstein said.

Barry, 80, was found dead at his home in Norman. “He did not get his papers in the morning and his neighbors began to worry,” said Eckstein. She had no other details and said that one of the causes of death had not been determined.

Barry was sports director of the KFOR in Oklahoma City until 1998, when he was succeeded by his son, Bob Barry, Jr.

Mr. Barry continued reporting of the television station until retiring in 2008.

She became the radio play-by-play voice of the University of Oklahoma in 1961, when he was chosen by OU football coach Bud Wilkinson. Barry in office until the rights of the radio changed in 1972.

Again the voice of the Sooners in 1991 after giving the basketball and football play-by-play of Oklahoma State University to play basketball for the University of Tulsa in periods between their organizational unit.

Barry retired last spring at the end of the OU basketball season, after having spent 50 years calling play Division I college in the state. He said he did it for health reasons and because he felt his vision allowed him to perform up to your standards.

“Something you love to do all your life and you can do it and get paid for it, it’s hard to let go,” said Barry in August last year to announce his plans to retire. “In fact, part of me does not want to let go but the other side says,” The time has come. ”

OU President David Boren said Barry was “loved by Oklahoma” statewide.

“Bob Barry represented the best of the spirit before. With his infectious enthusiasm, was one of the best broadcast sports journalists across the nation,” Boren said in a statement released by the university.

Barry began his career in football and basketball games called the Norman High School before it was observed by Wilkinson, whose children attended school.
