BMW Recall Information

BMW Recall Information, BMW owners may buy their cars primarily for speed, performance or the image it gives them, rather than all-out quality. But even BMW drivers want to turn on their ignitions and have the car go, and lately, some of them haven’t had that happen.

On Monday, BMW announced it is recalling 1.3 million cars worldwide because the battery cable cover in the trunk might be incorrectly mounted. (That’s a huge number for the luxury car company, almost as many cars as it sold in 2011.)

When that happens, BMW says the electrical system can malfunction, meaning the vehicle could fail to start, or in the worst cases, the system could char or catch fire.

The BMW car recall affects 5-series and 6-series models built between 2003 and 2010, the company said. BMW says fewer than 1 percent of those cars have encountered a problem, and it doesn’t know of any accidents, injuries or fires.

Owners will get letters, and the repairs will take about 30 minutes. Information about recalls can be found here, although the latest one hasn’t been posted yet.

The recall affects about 368,000 cars in the United States and about 293,000 cars in Germany, according to the company. Another 109,000 cars are subject to the recall in Britain and about 102,000 in China, BMW said.

The 5-series is BMW’s mid-priced car in the United States, starting around $47,000, although fully loaded models can cost more than $60,000. The even more upscale 6-series comes in coupe and convertible versions, starting north of $70,000.
