Blake Griffin Dunk

February 5, 2012 by · Comments Off on Blake Griffin Dunk

Blake Griffin Dunk, My buddy was in the building for one of those Halley’s comet moments, when physics-defying athleticism warps reality and freezes time. And my buddy missed it.

Journalist J.A. Adande was retrieving his laptop in the press room, where he caught Blake Griffin’s dunk live on TV. And as Clippers fans exalted with Richter scale reaction, Adande scurried out to the court, just to hear it. To feel it.

“And that buzz,” he said, “lasted the rest of the game.”

Griffin’s dunk last week over Oklahoma City’s Kendrick Perkins was the dunk of the season. Even LeBron James tweeted as much — and this was soon after LeBron literally dunked over John Lucas III.

One could argue that Griffin’s dunk was the greatest dunk in the history of dunks. If you didn’t see it — go see it! — here’s the play-by-play account:

B Griffin flares off a pick he set and receives a bounce pass on the left side of the lane, parallel to the top of the half circle, the one that extends from under the basket.

B In one motion, he catches the pass and leaps toward the basket.

B Perkins gets in front of Griffin’s elevating body and lunges forward with his arms up.

B In midair, Griffin cocks the ball back with his right hand while he cold-cocks Perkins in the face with his left hand.

B At its apex, the ball in his hand is more than a foot higher than the rim. Griffin viciously throws it at the rim — catching the rim with his fingers — and as he falls back to earth, his mouth is agape when he hits the hardwood.

Blake Griffin Dunk Over Car

Blake Griffin Dunk Over Car, The days of the tomahawk Dominique disappeared. The cradle dunk Jordan is a dinosaur. Throw it on the board for you is gone. Blake Griffin soaked on a car during a gospel choir sang at midcourt. And it is your Slam Dunk Contest Champion 2011. It was impressive and entertaining. That, my friends, is where we go with the dunk contest. Saturday night, the four participants – Griffin, Javal McGee, DeMar DeRozan and Serge IBAK – accessories used, skits and stage performance to the dunks. It was made for television. It was not only four band members in jeans and T-shirts “rocker”, he was a concert by Kanye West. It was pure entertainment with a few dunks thrown in.

And it was testing the most entertaining in years. It’s how things will be for years to come. Say you miss the old school dunk contest all you want, the event has evolved. “Many things are possible has been done, you know what I mean?” Griffin said after the competition. “So it is difficult to find something that nobody has ever seen before. It’s always the big thing. Everyone is like ‘Oh it’ll be something nobody has ever seen, “but you kind of have to use props for that. It’s kind of become – somewhat shifted to that. ”

“Each of us then definitively established,” said McGee Javal finalist. “We came with the accessories and all. We all came for entertainment, because we certainly did not want to be a disappointment for the Slam Dunk Contest as the previous year was.

Last year after year to see Dwight Howard, the old school guys. Some props, just athletics on the screen. The event is panoramic as dull.

Griffin is on site – we’ve seen just about everything. Serge IBAK executed a dunk off of free throws and could not get a perfect score of Dr. J (who was one of the judges).

But he did not just make the dunk. The Congo native is out of Kanye music with people carrying flags with the colors of Africa. The flag bearers lined his way to the free throw line.

(AP) – With a gospel choir to encourage midcourt steal, Blake Griffin climbed onto a car and threw a two-handed dunk.

The jump remarkable rookie won the Slam Dunk Contest, and he also drove home the point clear of all-Star Saturday: The Rising Star Clippers is just the beginning of a thrilling journey.

Griffin easily surpassed the hood of the Kia Optima 2011 and took a pass from teammate Baron Davis on the roof while the berobed Crenshaw Select choir sang “I Believe I Can Fly”, winning the 26th NBA dunk contest in the iconic before his hometown fans.

“There’s a little pressure on us to really put on a show, but I thought these guys all did a great job,” said Griffin, who beat Washington Javal McGee in the final.

Griffin grew up watching and rewatching each dunk contest on videotape with his brother in Oklahoma, to study the evolution of the event. He said the car dunk got the idea from the start – an ideal way to show his combination of athleticism and raw talent Hollywood.

“When they came to me … they said there were no rules, “said Griffin. “I was like, ‘so I can jump over a car? Yes? Oh, maybe I do now. “I thought I could probably clear, and Baron came with the choir.”

The move could have paralyzed the Clippers, with the epic story of star-crossed franchise of bad luck – even with Griffin, who missed all of last season after breaking his kneecap in the final preseason game before what was supposed to be the No. 1 pick rookie campaign.

Griffin became internationally famous for his incredible dunks, but jumped over a car? Sounds like a curse when Clipper just waiting to happen.

Clippers owner Donald Sterling was present; perhaps look between the fingers of one hand over his eyes.

“I could cut my foot, I guess,” said Griffin. “That’s what I feared -. Just clip my foot on the side and smash my face in the car Fortunately, it worked ”

Griffin barely made the first round after missing several attempts on his second dunk of the first round. But with an entire building solidly behind him, McGee and Toronto DeMar DeRozan – a native of Los Angeles – did not really have a chance despite his or her own creative dunks at the Staples Center.

McGee got a 99 with two spectacular slams inventive in the first round, but he himself kicked using a three-ball cascade earlier than planned after he Serge IBAK Oklahoma City did something similar to that he had planned for the first round.

“Certainly, he was ready with a car,” said 7-foot McGee, who scored a perfect 50 on two baskets by soaking together in his first attempt. “Nothing will beat this, unless I bring a plane out or something.”

Earlier, Miami, James Jones held off Boston teammates Paul Pierce and Ray Allen to win his first 3-point shootout, and Golden State, Stephen Curry won the Skills Challenge.

But Saturday was all about Griffin, who began the contest with a dunk turning 360 degrees before converting a bounce pass on the side of the board to finish the first round.

The first rookie All-Star in eight years then returned a favorite incredibly hard with his first dunk of the final, putting his arm through the hoop and hanging him by his elbow, like Vince Carter did while winning the contest 2000.

And when the fans saw a car leaving the tunnel scene, they waved the checkered flag in this race.

Griffin is in the middle of the busiest weekends All-Star for anyone in the recent history of the NBA. He scored 14 points Friday in Rookie Challenge, and he remained in the dunk contest, even after being chosen for the Western team in the main event on Sunday.

All four have distinguished themselves in Hollywood dunkers, showing planning and invention in which an event is sometimes sloppy.

IBAK caught in the middle of the court several banners for NBA Africa and promptly threw a Dr. J-style long jump dunk from free throw line. IBAK recovered a plush toy of the rim with his mouth while throwing his second dunk.

“My first dunk was the free throw line and it was good,” said IBAK. “Second, no one did before in the NBA. … (But) it is surprising to see Blake Griffin do a show like he did. He did a great job. ”

McGee has a standard second basket attached to a forklift, placed next to the regular panel. After several incidents, he managed to throw a left-handed dunk while throwing the ball further off the board for himself in a jam right.

McGee joined Griffin in the second round by dipping three times on the jump itself, slapping home a pass for the third jam. DeRozan could not make the final despite an impressive second dunk where he threw a pass to himself on the back for a windmill jam.

After Griffin’s elbow dunk in the final, McGee floated under the rim and threw an incredible twist jam on the other side.

That’s when Griffin made his wheels.

McGee had another hard dunk in his final attempt, but Griffin has received 68 percent of the voting rights of fans who determines the final outcome.

Griffin laughed when asked if he will defend his title next year in Orlando.

“We’ll see. I have to get somewhere else,” he said. “Maybe a boat next year.”

Earlier, the Heat finally beat the Celtics to something this season, thanks to the race of Jones shooting smoothly.

Jones, a veteran of eight years who rarely draws inside the 3-point line, made five straight shots to end the final round with his style ground-bound. Pierce was the defending champion, and Allen recently became leader of the NBA’s career 3-pointers.

“These guys have been encouraging for me, rooting for me,” said Jones, whose new-look Heat have lost three games this season for the Celtics. “We know we’ve had our struggles against the Celtics in the past, but today, the heat came out on top, so I’m excited about it.”
