Black History Month Activities, The Hermitage, Home of President Andrew Jackson, will celebrate Black History Month with a schedule of special events throughout February. Each week will feature different aspects of African-American culture. The series is sponsored by The Cracker Barrel Foundation and The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority.

All of these events are FREE and open to the public.

Thursday, Feb 2, 7 p.m. – MUSIC Led by Brandon Boyd, Music Director at Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church, this is a celebration of African-American musical tradition. This event will take place in the Auditorium in the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center.

Saturday, Feb 11, 1 p.m. – GENEALOGY John Baker, author of The Washingtons of Wessyngton Plantation, will discuss his research into the genealogy of his family, dating back to enslavement at the Wessyngton Plantation, and give tips into tracing the genealogy of families who were enslaved.

Saturday, Feb 18, 1 p.m. – HONOR Join us for a ceremony to honor the enslaved community at The Hermitage. This will take place at the Enslaved Memorial on the property.

Saturday, Feb 25, Noon – FREEDOM Join us for a presentation with the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. This event will be a tie-in with the NURFC as The Hermitage is named as a Freedom Station, and a discussion of the Underground Railroad in Nashville. This event will take place in the Auditorium in the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center.
