An October survey found that 16 percent of consumers — more than last year — will start their holiday shopping on Black Friday, according to Forbes Magazine. With all those New England golfers out searching for deals, and with the country’s largest retailers opening their doors to Boston golfers early Friday morning, you need a plan for where to go for what.

Why Black Friday? Black Friday, of course, refers to the day after Thanksgiving, the busiest shopping day on the calendar, when retailers historically start turning profits (moving from the red into the black). Shop.org coined the term “Cyber Monday” in 2005 to mark the Monday after Thanksgiving as the official online holiday shopping season.

Black Friday ads. There are a few Web sites that can help you organize your Black Friday buying with the latest Black Friday ads.

At black-friday.net, you’ll learn that Best Buy is having an online, pre-Black Friday HDTV sale. You can choose from a selection of high-def TVs right now. black-friday.net updates its Black Friday deals info regularly, so you might want to bookmark the page.

The holy grail of up-to-date Black Friday deals is bfads. In addition to surfing the site for daily deals, you can receive e-mail updates for hot deals.

You can also win the site’s daily contests. Today’s give-away items: An iPod Touch and four iPod nanos. What better way to relax as you line up that club championship-winning putt than plugging in your ear buds and listening to your favorite tunes on your brand new iPod nano?

So many deals, so little time. Here’s a small sample of what you can expect to find on Black Friday:

Best Buy stores will open at 5 a.m. on the day after Thanksgiving. A 120-gigabyte Xbox 360 Elite game system will set you back $149.99. Now, you’ll finally be able to play Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (just $59.99 at Best Buy).

GameStop will open its doors at 6 a.m. Friday for your PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and DS Game enjoyment. Wii Fit Plus ($19.99 from GameStop) will help you burn those Turkey Day calories and get ready for next year’s Boston golf season.

NewEgg’s TomTom XL 340 4.3-inch GPS navigation system will ensure that you never get lost on your way to a golf course again. It would have been a steal for $97, but it’s sold out.

Not to worry, though. Amazon has the same system on sale for the same doorbusting price.

Post those scores. How about a low-cost notebook computer on which to post your latest golf score at ghin.com? If you’re still living in the dark ages and using a PC instead of a Mac, check out bfads’ deals, including a 2GB eMachines laptop for $198.

“The $200 eMachines laptop is a very good machine for the price and we fully expect it to be one of the most sought after items this Black Friday,” according to bfads’ reviewers.

Buy now, avoid the Black Friday rush. With so many pre-Black Friday deals available, you might want to start buying now. Amazon has already posted out-of-stock notices on items such as Sony Bravia 40-inch HDTVs.

So, Boston golfers: Happy Black Friday.
