Billy Grammer DiesBilly Grammer Dies, On Tuesday morning August 9 2011, Billy Grammar fell into a deep sleep in his favorite chair in his living room. A few hours later, on August 10th at 12:20 midnight, went gently into the arms of her loving Savior.

It was exactly the way he wanted to go. They lived large and was generous with his life, drawing all those around you in your circle of music, stories, good food and laughter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ruth Elizabeth Grammar Burzynski. She deeply loves his family and friends will miss him very much, the memory will remain etched in their hearts. Goodbye, Billy Grammar. See you on the big day.

Billy was born August 28, 1925 in Franklin County, to Archie and Stella Grammar, who preceded him in death. Four brothers also preceded him in death, John, Don, Charles Carl and grammar, and a grandson, Jeff Blair.

Billy is survived by his wife, Ruth, and their three children, Donna (David) Blair of Nashville, Tennessee, Dianne (Alan) Mezger Dallas, Texas, and Billy (Sally), Grammar of Richardson, Texas. Also survived by four brothers and four sisters, Lonnie (Verla) Royalton, Archie (Sharon) of Waterford, Michigan, Darrell (Judy) of Eddyville, Kentucky, and Carroll Grammar of Cadiz, Kentucky, Ramona Taskey, Ruby Williams and Carolyn Talley , all of Benton, and Sharon (Stan) Moser of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin also is survived by eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Billy was a singer and guitarist who had a long career in music. From 1955 to 1959, Billy played lead guitar on “The Jimmy Dean Show.” He is perhaps best known for his No. 1 hit record in 1958, “Gotta go.”

In February 1959, Billy became a life member of the Grand Ope Opry in Nashville, Tennessee Opry Family was very special to Billy. He spent several years traveling and performing with many of them.

Billy was a member of the Rend City Baptist Church and was a Gideon.

Funeral services will be at home in Morton and Johnston Funeral Benton. The visit is Friday, August 12 4-8 pm Funeral services are scheduled for 11 am Saturday with Pastor John West presiding. The funeral will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
