Young Driver Insurance

Young Driver Insurance, According to a recent poll carried out by the AA 11% of drivers think that they would not pass their driving test if they were asked to re-take it.

Interestingly, it is the younger drivers who are showing signs of having the least confidence even though it’s older motorists who are probably not that familiar with the more recent driving test format. As many as 15% of the 18-24 year olds polled said that they were either ‘quite unlikely’ or ‘unlikely’ to pass compared to only 9% of those over the age of 65. Possibly an indication of how confidence grows with experience on the road.

These findings go some way towards explaining why it is such a challenge to find cheap car insurance for young drivers. A lack of experience and confidence on the roads contributes to some of the highest incidence of accidents, with 1 in 5 drivers in the UK having an accident within their first year of driving. This, of course, presents a higher risk to insurers meaning that car insurance for young drivers is almost always priced at a higher rate than for more experienced motorists.

The poll also found that men are seemingly more confident than their female counterparts of passing a test if asked to do it again. Almost a third of the men polled thought that they were ‘very likely’ to be successful compared to only 23% of women.
