Christmas Songs 2011

Christmas Songs 2011Christmas Songs 2011, These days the airwaves are filled with Christmas songs. The same Christmas songs. Over and over. And while the holidays wouldn’t be the same without the beautiful violins leading up to Nat King Cole’s “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…,” by now many people have decided that Christmas is white enough already and maybe Bing Crosby should dream of something else for a while.

New artists come along and new Christmas songs are recorded every year. Beyonce may want me to believe that all she wants for Christmas is me, and it’s a lot of fun to bounce down the sidewalk singing along with her and pointing your finger at complete strangers when you hit that concluding “is You!” but there’s just something inherently Christmas-y about those classic voices from the 50’s. So here are some festive alternatives to keep the classic Christmas spirit fresh.

A few years before Brenda Lee got us Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, she introduced us to Christy Christmas. Christy is a brand new helper that Santa carved out of wood to help with things like present-picking and sleigh-loading. Brenda Lee was 11 years old when she recorded Christy Christmas, and even then her energy and spunk were contagious. It’s virtually impossible not to bounce along as you discover that “Christy Christmas will make your dreams come true. And you’ll love Christy Christmas just as much as he loves you!”
