A controversial doll that allows children to imitate the act of breast-feeding is coming to America. Berjuan, the Spanish company that makes the toy, last week announced plans to bring “Breast Milk Baby” to the U.S. market, starting with the ASD trade show in Las Vegas July 31.

The doll, which comes with a special halter top with two flowers positioned where nipples would be, makes suckling sounds when its mouth is brought close to sensors embedded in the flowers. But breast-feeding experts and moms are torn on whether the toy is natural, useful or disgusting.

Critics say the doll can over-sexualize young girls or force them to grow up too quickly.

“I heard people talking about it but, honestly, I thought it was a joke,” said Ilina Ewen, a writer for Deep South Moms and her own blog Dirt and Noise.

“There are just things that I think kids are too little to understand,” she said. “Let kids use their imagination and play with a doll and not deal with what it can do There’s no need to turn it into something that’s anatomically correct. Not at this age.”

But the company and supporters say the toys can help teach young girls about the nurturing skills they’ll need later in life.

Breast Milk Baby Halter Top Flowers For Nipples For Girls To Wear

Breast Milk Baby Halter Top Flowers For Nipples For Girls To Wear, Breast Milk Baby, a doll that teaches young girls how to breastfeed, is coming to U.S. stores, and is stirring up controversy.

The doll is made by Berjuan Toys, a company out of Spain. According to CBS, Berjuan touts the product as a way for young girls to “express their love and affection in the most natural way possible, just like mommy!”

Breast Milk Baby comes with a halter top for its owner, which contains two flowers where nipples would be. While wearing this top, a girl can hold the baby doll up to the flowers, and the baby will make suckling noises.

The doll is a top-selling product in Europe, but many U.S. parents find it to be bizarre and unsettling. Critics accuse the product of over-sexualizing young girls too soon.

“I think it’s very creepy,” said one woman, according to CBS. “I don’t think little kids should be breastfeeding.”

However, Carrie Lauth, a mother and blogger, doesn’t see what the problem is.

“I think it’s a fantastic idea, I don’t understand why it’s a controversy,” Lauth said, as quoted by ABC News. “It’s definitely something I would consider buying for my daughters because I’ve purchased in the past items that mimic what I do, like little baby slings for their dolls.”

According to Jay Reeve, a psychologist out of Florida, the doll’s realism goes too far. “Of course, children have played ‘parent’ with dolls for centuries, but this new twist seems to focus not on what babies are like as much as jump-starting a focus on breast-feeding,” said Reeve, as quoted by ABC. “I’m always a little disturbed by toys, games, or products that have the impact of accelerating childhood identification with being a full-blown adult.”

Breast Feeding Baby Doll Controversy

Breast Feeding Baby Doll Controversy, Many young children play with baby dolls, some of which drink bottles and some of which cry on command. But none of the dolls available in stores are ready to be breastfed. That is, until now. A new doll, about to hit shelves, brings a whole new level of realism.

Used to be dolls just wet their pants or cried. But now breast feeding is believing. The child has to wear a special halter.

There are two strategically located magnetic sensors in the halter top. When sensors in the baby detect the sensors in the top, the baby makes a sucking sound.

If this sounds vaguely familiar, maybe you heard about it when the dolls first appeared on line, sold by a Spanish company.

Well, now the dolls are coming to a store near you. Dennis Lewis with Berjuan Toys says, “We’re hopefully going to have breast feeding babies all over the States really soon.”

A prospect some may not be ready for, judging from their faces.

The doll maker says it’s just teaching young kids nurturing skills. Lewis says, “There’s absolutely nothing sexual about breastfeeding, it’s good for mommies, it’s good for babies, it’s good for society.”

the women we talked to looked askance at the idea. One woman says, “I don’t think I’m crazy about this doll.” Another says, “Too soon to be experiencing that physically.” Another says, “I think it’s ridiculous, let them be little girls.” Two more women say, “There’s actual breast milk that comes out?” and “No! Nothing comes out.”

But the doll’s intended demographic called it cool.

The doll does require juice from batteries.

The doll maker says even god supports the breast milk baby, what with all those depictions of Mary breastfeeding the baby Jesus.

But this mother was unconvinced. She says, “You know girls are very delicate at this age and they’re dealing with budding. They should not have to think about breast milk.”

“What natural part of life will they simulate next” wondered someone on Facebook.

By the way, the breast milk baby’s price is being reduced to 69.99. Batteries not included.
