BBVA Compass BowlBBVA Compass Bowl, The SMU Mustangs of the Conference USA will be taking on the Pittsburgh Panthers of the Big East in the 2012 BBVA Compass Bowl at Legion Field.

The Mustangs come into the bowl with a 7-5 record after defeating Rice 27-24 in its season finale. SMU began the year 5-1 with its only loss to nationally ranked Texas A&M, but stumbled down the stretch. Head coach June Jones is in his fourth year with the program and has led the Mustangs to a 23-29 record during his tenure. This is the third consecutive bowl appearance for Jones and the Mustangs.

The Panthers won the 2011 Compass Bowl. Pittsburgh will be led by interim head coach Keith Patterson after Todd Graham resigned in early December to take the Arizona State job. Patterson served as the team’s defensive coordinator as it finished 6-6. Patterson discussed in a press conference what he shared with the team upon learning he would be in charge for the bowl

“I told those young men that I am going to coach and prepare very hard for them and we’re going to win. We’re going to finish what we started!”

The Panthers gained bowl eligibility in their season finale with a 33-20 victory over Syracuse. Despite the .500 record, Pitt finished just one game out of a share of the Big East Title. The Panthers won three of their last five games, the two losses near the end were by a combined total of four points.

This will be the sixth meeting between the Panthers and Mustangs. The series has been dormant since 1983 when SMU defeated Pitt 7-3 in the Cotton Bowl en route to the 1982 NCAA-recognized National Championship. SMU’s Cotton Bowl victory evened the series at 2-2-1. These teams both lost a standout tailback to a season ending injury during the course of the regular season.

With SMU’s star running back Zach Line out with injury, freshman tailbacks Rishaad Wimbley and Jared Williams stepped in and led the Mustangs to victory in their season finale. Wimbley dashed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries while Williams rushed for 80 and a score one 11 carries. The rookie tandem should be able to provide a serviceable ground attack. J.J. McDermott was 33rd in the nation in total offense as he averaged 256.8 yards per game. The senior quarterback threw for 3,182 yards, 16 touchdowns and 16 interceptions with a completion rate of 59.5 percent. McDermott struggled in the season finale as he completed 16-of-25 attempts for 175 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.

Bbva Compass, It is heavier than his coaches would like, and he has not played a football game in two years. Mister Cobble but was ready to go.
The defensive tackle will finally make its debut at the University of Kentucky in Saturday’s BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham, Ala. UK coach Joker Phillips Cobble expects to get in 20-25 snaps as a backup, and redshirt freshman hopes to make the most of everyone.

“I just want to go there and not let my team,” said Cobble, who became eligible last month academic. “At the end of the game I want to let me know that I did a good job, I parts I had to do. I know my technique, and I know what I’m doing. I did not leave anything behind. ”

Cobble eagerness is understandable. He has not played since his last season at Central High School, where he helped the program to state titles back-to-back. Cobble redshirted in 2009 and was projected as a starter after the game to spring 2010. But he failed to qualify academically.

This was a stroke of Cobble and the United Kingdom. Because he missed a second consecutive season regular, this game will redshirt his freshman year in a match. It has only three seasons of eligibility left.

What can reasonably expect the UK Cobble? It is listed at 6 feet and 321 pounds, but he admits 10-15 pounds overweight. Phillips said it was all about getting the wheels in playing shape.

Cobble was on scout team, which is not normally subject to the same conditioning. Phillips intends to give him a heavy workload.

“It’s a lot for a defensive lineman,” said the coach. “We will have to ensure that it is under control. He does not try to do anything outside the plans. He has to play as aggressive as it was in practice. In spring practice, he a lot of plays. ”

How did Cobble in this situation? Mister Cobble ladies man upset Mister Cobble football player.

Cobble said he was more interested in the dating of the study. But when he found out during fall camp that he was ineligible academic, he said he began thinking about their choices and shifted its priorities.

“I had to stop dithering,” he said. “I tried not to be lazy. If I keep doing what I’ll be back in Louisville. I used this as my motivation. … I started to concentrate on my books and football. That’s what I’m here. ”

Defensive line coach David Turner likes what he has seen so far and it is curious to see how similar Cobble against Pittsburgh.

“It will probably be right up his alley game,” he said. “They will run the football with us. Its size can be an advantage. … If he takes what he does on the training ground for the game, he’ll be fine. But you never know how kids will react. ”

It was a long wait for Cobble.

“A successful game in there to make me mentally focused, and ready to go out with a win,” he said.
