With social media largely silenced after the Egyptian government cut Internet and mobile phones, the world is watching (and Twitter) live coverage of Al Jazeera. Al Jazeera English is rapidly becoming the main source of live coverage of Cairo – both on television and a live stream online.

“Today, every day I watched Al Jazeera’s special coverage of English from across Egypt,” said NPR social strategist Andy Carvin in a Poynter cat. “They live video from a skyscraper office in Cairo. It is very reminiscent CNN and the beginning of the first Gulf War. ”

At one point, police attempted to break into the office of Al Jazeera in Cairo, but from this hour, live coverage continues.
