Barbara Walters 10 Most Fascinating People, Barbara Walters on Wednesday night named Apple co-founder Steve Jobs her “Most Fascinating Person of 2011,” the first time a dead person has featured in her annual list.

In the special on ABC — where Walters ranks her 10 most fascinating people of the year — the 83-year-old veteran broadcaster also tracked the rise and rise of the world’s most famous bridesmaid, Pippa Middleton, and the media storm that surrounded the acquittal of accused murderer Amanda Knox.

But for Walters, the iconic 56-year-old Apple co-founder and former CEO topped her list. The interviewer said her rule had always been that those in the list should be living, but she decided to keep Jobs because, much like the man himself believed, “rules were made to be broken.”

Jobs’ death from pancreatic cancer in October touched off a wave of international memorials as everyone from US President Barack Obama to business rivals and everyday computer users of all ages paid tribute to the man who helped changed technological history.

His authorized biography rocketed straight to the top of best-seller lists and is expected to end 2011 as the year’s top selling book in the US.

Walters named Middleton to her list after she became a worldwide sensation following her sister Catherine’s marriage to Britain’s Prince William.

Knox made the list after being freed from an Italian prison in October when a court overturned her murder conviction because of unreliable DNA evidence.
