Baby MammothBaby Mammoth, A reindeer herder in the Russian Arctic has encountered prehistoric remains of a baby woolly mammoth protruding from the permafrost, local officials said Friday.

The pastor said the body was so perfectly preserved, like the 40,000 year old mammoth Lyuba found the calf in the same region four years away, officials said, adding that the expedition had left with the hope confirm the “sensational” discovery.

“If it’s true what they say about how he stayed, this will be another sense of global importance,” said expedition leader Natalia Fyodorova in a statement on the official website of Arctic Yamalo-Nenets region.

Scientists planned to fly the mammoth remains the regional capital Salekhard, where it is stored in a refrigerator to prevent decomposition of the remains.

Giant Woolly mammoths became extinct from the Age of Earth Ice 1.8 million to about 11,500 years ago.

Around the world scientists were surprised by the discovery of Lyuba, named after the wife of the hunter who discovered it.

The Arctic ice holds the sample of extinction so immaculately maintained that despite her fur was gone, her skin and internal organs were intact.
