Azteca Reporter, WASHINGTON (AP) – Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis, known for their views frankly, had little to say on the radio on Tuesday to women journalists in locker rooms of the NFL.

The League quickly condemned his remarks as inappropriate and offensive, and Portis apologized over the Redskins.

Tackling the NFL’s investigation of the treatment of New York Jets, TV Azteca reporter Ines Sainz, Portis said that both sides have wandering eyes when the sexes are mixed in such an environment.

“I think putting women reporters in the locker room in a position to see guys walking around nkd, and sit in the locker room with 53 guys, and suddenly you see a beautiful woman in the locker room. I think men are going to tend to turn and look and I want to say something to that woman, “Portis said in his weekly appearance on 106.7 The Fan.

The NFL is investigating the Jets after a few players made catcalls directed at Sainz on Saturday while waiting to interview the quarterback Mark Sanchez. In addition, an assistant coach seemed to deliberately handling the ball to players who were near Sainz during a practice exercise.

Portis said he was not aware of what happened to Sainz, but offered his opinion on what he considers the prospect of a female journalist.

“You know, someone has to fire his interest, he or she will love someone. I do not know what kind of woman, if you go to see 53 men (bodies),” said Portis. “I know you’re doing a job, but at the same time, so I’ll cut my eye if I see someone worth talking about, I’m sure you do the same.”

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league quickly addressed comments of the player with the Redskins.

“The comments are clearly inappropriate, offensive, and have no place in the NFL,” he said in e-mail. “We have contacted the Redskins and discuss the matter directly with Mr. Portis.”

A few hours later, the Redskins released a statement from Portis.

“I was wrong to make the comments I made, and I apologize,” the statement said. “I respect the work they do all the reporters. It is a difficult job and we all have to work and act in a professional manner. I understand and support the team in these issues.”

Redskin’s spokesman Tony Wyllie also issued a statement saying that the Redskins “have a clear and unambiguous policy of being a professional in these matters.”

“We will take steps to remind everyone about this,” said Wyllie. He did not say what those measures would be.

The Association of Women in Sports Media said it has been in contact with the NFL on the comments from Portis and appreciates the quick response of the league. The awsm also issued a statement detailing the history of the legal battle for equal access to locker rooms.

“Awsm continues to monitor issues relating to the locker room access and is committed to help create and maintain a work environment free of harassment and hostility,” the statement said.

In the past, Portis has irked his teammates and coaches to speak their mind. He was strangely out of care through training camp and preseason this year. Recently, he has been talking about how much he was enjoying his new low profile.

“I realize that can not satisfy people,” Portis said last week. “And there is no reason to keep trying, no matter what you do. If I talk to the media, the incumbent will be someone who should not bash bash. If I do not talk to the media, I’m an idiot Not to mention, so cannot satisfy people. “
