Astro X Factor

Astro X Factor, To borrow a phrase from Margaret Thatcher, this is no time for “The X Factor” semifinalists to go wobbly.

That’s because next week marks the finale of the show’s inaugural season, and with only three contestants poised to enter the Factor’s ultimate royal rumble, the arithmetic simply won’t add up for an unlucky fellow tonight.

Wednesday, I put together a brief analysis of the contestants and their odds of winning the competition. At this point, all four are more or less deserving — more on that shortly — but I pegged Chris Rene to win the competition, using his astounding social media support as a way to gauge his national appeal.

Yes, I know: I’ve spent the better part of each week bashing Rene, bemoaning his lackluster singing ability and wondering how America can eliminate such prodigies like Drew Ryniewicz, Rachel Crow and Astro in favor of this singer-songwriter. But there’s no questioning Rene’s momentum, and without calling into question the wisdom of the American electorate, the fact remains that anytime a decision is adjudicated on a mass scale, there’s bound to be some surprising results.

But such debates are best left for today and Friday, as we anticipate tonight’s results episode and prepare to break down the latest developments. For now, let’s look back at the performances from Wednesday’s show.
