Aretha Franklin Birthday, Aretha Franklin has a lot more than her 70th birthday to celebrate: She’s reuniting with one of her musical mentors, Clive Davis, for a new album.

In an interview at her swanky birthday party on Saturday, Franklin said she and Davis, who helped engineer her comeback in the 1980s, would be working on new music.

“I have re-signed with Clive Davis, so I’m recording with Clive again,” said Franklin of the music mogul, who is associated with Sony Music Entertainment.

Franklin said that after Davis’ birthday next month, “we’re going to sit together and decide what it is we’re going to record.”

Davis sat next to Franklin for most of the night at the soiree at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel, which included a sit-down dinner, a dance performance and a mini-concert that featured rising jazz pianist Kris Bowers.

Other guests included Diane Sawyer, Rev. Al Sharpton, and Willie Wilkerson, Franklin’s longtime companion and briefly this year her fiancé.

Wilkerson stood by Franklin’s side as she cut her three-tier, lime-green birthday cake while the crowd serenaded her with Stevie Wonder’s version of “Happy Birthday.”

Rolling Stone magazine ranked her atop its “100 Greatest Singers of All Time” list, as well as the ninth greatest artist of all time. She has won 18 competitive Grammys and two honorary Grammys. She has 20 No.1 singles on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart and two No.1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: “Respect” (1967) and “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)” (1987), a duet with George Michael.

Since 1961, she has scored a total of 45 Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Between 1967 and 1982 she had 10 No.1 R&B albums-more than any other female artist. In 1987, Franklin became the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Aretha Franklin, Aretha Franklin says she can’t attend Whitney Houston’s funeral because of her health. Franklin had been expected to sing at the service Saturday in Newark, New Jersey. She tells The Associated Press she has been having foot and leg problems. She gave a concert Friday and says her legs locked up late into the night.

She says she sends best wishes to Houston’s relatives. Franklin is close with the family. Houston lovingly called her “Aunt Ree.”

Houston, who was 48, died Feb. 11 in California, the day before the Grammy awards. About 1,500 guests are expected to attend the private service.

Aretha FranklinAretha Franklin, The 69-year-old singer and William “Willie” Wilkerson hope to marry later this year in Miami, with the wedding expected to take place on a beach with a private party afterwards on board a yacht.

The pair became engaged over the Christmas holidays, according to news agency AP.

“We’re looking at June or July for our date, and no I’m not pregnant, LOL!,” Franklin said in a statement.

Franklin’s new fiance is a former firefighter who she reportedly met more than 27 years ago while signing autographs in her hometown of Detroit, Michigan. The pair struck up a friendship after Wilkerson asked the singer to sign the cast around his broken leg.

The Grammy-award winning singer has been married twice before, first to Ted White in 1961 for eight years, then actor Glynn Turman in 1978 for six years. For her third ceremony, the soul singer is said to be looking into tailored wedding gowns by Vera Wang, Valentino and Donna Karan.
