Apolo Ohno Birthday, Born and raised in Huntington Beach, Melissa Pazornik is now enjoying the Big Apple. Pazornik is the video producer for the weekend edition of NBC’s “Today” show in New York City.

In her mid-20s, Pazornik has a big job and loves every minute of it.

“I cut and supervise editing sessions for the segments, teases, show opens, and manage video coverage for breaking news and special events,” said Pazornik.

“I also pitch stories, book guests for shows, and conduct pre-interviews for news, sports, lifestyle, cooking and entertainment segments.

“Some special events have included coverage of Hurricane Irene and the 10th anniversary of 9/11,” Pazornik said. “This week I am working with Olympian Apolo Anton Ohno.”

Sam Carter may only be 5 years old, but the little Huntington Beach Pegasus School student already knows what it means to give back.

Three years ago, he decided to ask for financial donations instead of birthday presents so that children without school supplies could have them. Sammy’s Closet was funded at Marina High School with a $500 donation from Sammy Carter.

The miniature go-getter wanted to be the big-money raiser for a race at his school. The parent-teacher organization of Pegasus put on a jogathon to raise money to help provide teachers with funding to purchase classroom supplies. He raised $1,845 and competed against 599 students, finishing second in fundraising among those in the primary, lower school grades.

Carter was excited about running. “I thought I was going to win the whole race, and I was excited when the school gave me a special medal this year in front of the whole school.”

Parents Parvaneh and Patrick Carter are very proud.

“He’s been very excited about the annual jogathon,” said Parvaneh Carter. “We have tried to teach Sam to give back, and are very proud of him and his efforts.”

“I’ve probably sold close to 400,000 Cruise of Lights tickets in 25 years,” said Huntington Harbour Philharmonic Committee office manager Valerie Ingham.

The Huntington Beach resident is retiring after this holiday season. Ingham, originally from England, is the friendly voice on the phone, the in-person contact every year for boat parade entrants, and a historian of sorts for Huntington Harbour history.

“I’ve seen several generations of Cruise of Lights guests, and volunteers,” said Ingham.

Ingham is the go-to source for 400-plus HHPC volunteers. “I answer question after question, day after day … and year after year,” said Ingham.
