Anthony Borgese, Anthony Borgese, best known for his role in the TV series, The Sopranos, was sentenced Wednesday to six months of house arrest for extortion.

He faced a sentence of three years behind bars after pleading guilty to enlisting Joseph Orlando, an associate of the Gambino crime family, to collect $5,000 for him. Orlando dispatched people who broke the jaw and ribs of the man the money came from. Borgese claimed that he did not know that someone would be brutalized.

However, Borgese’s sentence was mitigated to house arrest and two years probation after he agreed to speak to youth groups about the dangers of mob life. He also filmed a public service announcement about the same topic.

“I play a lot of tough guy and gangster roles,” Borgese says in the announcement. “But in real life that don’t work, kids. . . . If you ever break the law, and you think you’re a wiseguy, you’re not.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan Norris said it is unusual for a mobster to plead guilty and then turn his back on the mob life.
