Ann Romney Rich, Romney’s comments come right before today’s Super Tuesday vote in which ten states will vote to decide who will further cripple Mitt Romney’s chances against President Obama.

Via Politico, here are Ann Romney’s comments in full context:

The one thing this disease [multiple sclerosis] has been for me has been a wonderful teacher. And with that comes an ability for compassion for others that are suffering and for me, I just want to make my family bigger. Those that are suffering from MS or from cancer or from any disease, I feel like I just want to throw my arms open and just say: welcome to my family and welcome to the place where I’ve been. And – and, so, you know, we can be poor in spirit and I don’t – I don’t look – I don’t even consider myself wealthy, which is an interesting thing. It can be here today and gone tomorrow. And how I measure – how I measure riches is by the friends I have and the loved ones that I have and the people that I care about in my life. And that’s where my values are and that’s – those are my riches.

Ann Romney Consider Myself Wealthy, In an interview on Monday with Fox News, Ann Romney, the wife of GOP front-runner Mitt Romney, said that she does not consider herself to be wealthy. This remark was made in the context of a conversation between Ms. Romney and Fox News about her multiple sclerosis.

The interviewer brought up Ms. Romney’s multiple sclerosis early in the interview, praising her tireless support of her husband during his campaign. He asked her how she coped with the fatigue that often accompanies the disease.

Ms. Romney said that the thing that helps her the most with her fatigue is horseback riding. According to Ms. Romney, she has “horses in every port.”

When the interviewer asked her whether she would be able to endure the rigors of being First Lady of the United States, Ms. Romney replied, “Well, if I can be on the campaign […] I haven’t been home since January […] and if I am in that situation, I will be able to have my horses nearby […] they really do give me a shot in the arm, a shot of energy.”

When questioned about the criticism that has been launched on several occasions against her husband, that his net worth of $250 million puts him out of touch with the concerns of most Americans, Ms. Romney replied, “the one thing this disease has been for me is a wonderful teacher […] for me, I just want to make my family bigger […] those that are suffering from MS, or from cancer, or from any disease […] I just want to throw open my arms and say ‘welcome to my family […] I don’t even consider myself wealthy.”

She went on to elaborate on this point, saying: “It can be here today and gone tomorrow […] how I measure riches are by the friends I have, and the loved ones I have, people I care about in my life […] so for me having gone through a difficult period in my life both with MS and with breast cancer it has done something to my heart and it has softened my heart and made me realize there are many people suffering in this country and they are suffering from things that aren’t financial — and some people are suffering from things that are financial, as well — but those that are suffering, for me, I just have a larger capacity for love and for understanding.”
