Venus Williams, Two-time U.S. Open winner Venus Williams and defending champion Kim Clijsters advanced to the quarterfinals of the last Grand Slam of the tennis season today in very different fashions.

Williams needed 1 hour, 54 minutes to overcome their own problems that it serves and Shahar Peer of Israel 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Williams missed 52 percent of their serves in the first place, struggling with pitching in the wind turning in the National Tennis Center in New York.

Sam Querrey, twenty-seeded, an American, advanced to the round of the men’s room with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 defeat of the Spanish 14-seeded Nicolas Almagro. Joining him in the round of 16 was Fernando Verdasco, the eighth seed from Spain, who won 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 against 31st-seeded Argentine David Nalbandian.

Top seed Rafael Nadal of Spain, fourth-seeded Briton Andy Murray and No. 18 John Isner of the U.S. parties is scheduled for later today.
