Amanda Knox and her then boyfriend, were convicted in the murder of her British roommate, but at a hearing in the court of appeals today, forensic experts question the DNA evidence used to convict them.

A critical day in an Italian court for Amanda Knox. Knox and her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, is fighting to overturn their convictions of murder in the stabbing death of Meredith Kercher 2007 British student. In a boost for the defense, independent experts testified Monday that they found no blood or DNA on the blade of the murder weapon called.

The prosecution claimed a knife was found at the scene and Knox Kercher’s DNA on it. DNA was found on the handle, but not on the sheet. The experts also said investigators did not follow judicial to the correct collection of evidence. Many legal analysts call the case, a coroner free for all, and say that the testimony on Monday could set Knox free.

Knox had just turned 24 years old, who has spent nearly four years behind bars. Depending on the outcome of the hearing, Knox could be released from jail as soon as September.
