Aljazeeraenglish, Pacifica Radio becomes the first radio network to broadcast Al Jazeera English in the United States in New York flagship station WBAI (99.5 FM). The show airs Monday through Friday 5:00 to 6:00

“Reports on the scene of protests this week in Egypt, were absolutely fascinating,” said Berthold Reimers, general manager of WBAI.

As North Africa & The Middle East experience one of the most tumultuous periods in recent history, independent media is of paramount importance as the voice of the people in the street, in the fight says Tony Bates, director of WBAI program. “WBAI has been and will continue to be at the forefront of the coverage that the world is changing before our eyes. The station Al-Jazeera and Al Jazeera English network brought much of the breaking news to us.

One hour of Al Jazeera English is followed by six hours “Wakeup Call” with Esther Armah and 8 hours by the award-winning “Democracy Now” with Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez. “WBAI broadcasts a formidable block of 4 hours per day “must listen – Happening Now information every morning that cannot be heard elsewhere,” said Reimers.

Since its launch in 2006, Al Jazeera English has become a world leader in the coverage of Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. Recently, the New York Times reported that cable networks would not affect Al Jazeera English, if the site traffic of AJE were exploding. WBAI partnership with Al Jazeera English radio gives listeners the opportunity to give Al Jazeera English in New York and its environs.
