Alcohol Poisoning, A Transylvania County jury on Friday found Julie Noble guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the alcohol poisoning death of a 19-year-old man in her Brevard home in December 2008.

Superior Court Judge Gary Gavenus imposed the maximum sentence, sending Noble to prison for a term of at least 16 months but not more than 20 months.

The jury began deliberations Thursday afternoon, and the verdict was returned Friday morning around 11 a.m.

Noble, 56, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in 2009 after Daniel Furr died at her home on Dec. 27, 2008. Noble is accused of providing alcohol to Furr, who died of acute ethanol toxicity and had a blood alcohol level of .38.

Daniel Furr’s father, Joseph, said he has no animosity toward Noble or her family.

“When this journey started, we knew nothing would change to bring our son back,” Furr said. “From the very beginning, it has been our hope that some good could come out of our loss. We established a scholarship fund and a website to inform the community about underage drinking. Out of the trial, our hope was the years of evidence we knew existed would bring about accountability. For us, it has not been about vengeance. We are glad this chapter is over and that the evidence brought about a conviction.”

Furr said his son had an excellent track record before he was cited for underage drinking at a party in 2008, just a week before his death.

“Daniel was a good kid,” Furr said. “He had a plan, and he was a few days away from starting college. This totally blindsided us.”

District Attorney Jeff Hunt sent out a news release Friday commending the jury for returning a guilty verdict.
