Eight is EnoughEight is Enough | USsPost.com:Millions may tune into the Today Show on Monday morning hoping to see Eight Is Enough’s Adam Rich. If so, those millions will be disappointed.

Seven cast members from the hit show Eight is Enough will reunite on Monday morning as NBC’s Today Show kicks off its “Great TV Families Reunited” weeklong series.

Dick Van Patten, Laurie Walters, Connie Needham, Grant Goodeye, Dianne Kay, Willie Aames, and Betty Buckley are the Eight is Enough cast members scheduled to appear. They are expected to discuss their experiences on the show and what made it as successful as it was.

Eight is Enough was a dramedy of sorts, as it combined light hearted humor with life themes that were much more serious than what was presented by The Brady Bunch, one of its precursors. Running from 1977 to 1981, the show seemed to make an impact, particularly on Generation X, which was far greater than what either the show’s ratings or length of its run would suggest. Its cast is remembered fondly even if the story lines have long since faded from most memories.

One cast member that will be missing from the reunion, however, is one that played arguably its most popular character. Adam Rich, who played the role of Nicholas Bradford, was in many ways the center of the show, even if that likely was not the intent of the writers at the beginning of the series.

Rich had that ‘it’ factor that sometimes is difficult to predict. He was very photogenic and as much as anybody represented the ‘cute kid’ phenomenon that stretched from shows as early as Leave it to Beaver all the way through The Cosby Show. As a very young kid, he was very a short period of time as hot as anybody on television.

After Eight is Enough, however, Rich’s acting career went nowhere. He didn’t necessarily have a resume to fall back on besides the cute kid role…just as his ‘cute kid’ looks were rapidly fading. Rich then struggled through a myriad of personal problems including drug addiction and criminal charges for theft. His rise and fall in many ways mirrors other celebrity children. Recently, for example, another ‘cute kid’ celebrity, Gary Coleman, had struggles of his own.
