Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter Trailer, President Lincoln’s mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave owning helpers.
The trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has landed and it looks impressive. The official summary has told us for some time that:

“President Lincoln’s mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers”

So what have we learned from the first moving footage from the film?

Forget Team Edward and Team Jacob, in this modern world of terrorist cells and Patriot Acts, lets get down to basics. Are you pro-America or are you an evil blood-sucking undead monster, clearly this is a black and white issue, there can be no middle ground. This philosophy brought to you by the Fox News Network.

Cherry tree nothing!

What is it with American Presidents and trees? George Washington may have had a story or two to tell about cutting down a cherry tree (and not being able to tell a lie) but it turns out that this former U.S. President can bring about near explosive suicide in trees with just one blow. Perhaps tree-felling was how primaries were decided in the old days?

Lights, camera … crazy angles

It seems light and the horizon weren’t quite as reliable back in the mid-nineteenth century, as the trailer opens with nary a flicker on the Fox logo and soon after our camera operator is caught napping by some guy walking through a door with the lights all behind him. Clearly Timur Bekmambetov will not be directing this film with locked off cameras and well lit drawn out scenes.

Inaugurations, Civil Wars, Burning bridges

There is a lot happening in a short amount of trailer here. With the added promise of 3D, this is promising to be adrenalin packed popcorn fare at the very least.

The cat in the hat

Benjamin Walker looks like a serious man with a serious hat out to do some serious vampire hunting. From the first scene where he dons the Presidential trademark, the question of whether he can fill it is null and void. This man is master of his miliner.

The cat with the axe

If the hat is the trademark we all recognise, clearly the axe is intended to become one. Walker’s Lincoln hefts that axe with equal aplomb through tree, undead and quite possibly confederate soldiers – yes that’s the American Civil War in the background of this President’s one man undead mission.

Revelations

“And I looked and behold was death saying come and see…” yup the voice over has gone all biblical, always a good sign when the undead are involved. Also sets up an interesting verse on verse smackdown for a sequel where Abraham can take on the reanimated corpse of Jules from Pulp Fiction.

The Motive

Nancy Hanks Lincoln. We don’t see her but we do see her grave. “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God”. The cast list has Nancy played by Australia’s Robin McLeavy (you may recognise her as the terrifying horror date from last years Aussie horror flick The Loved Ones), but at a guess, we shouldn’t expect too much in the way of screen time for Robin when her tombstone is all that makes the trailer.

Produced by Tim Burton

There’s no sign of Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham-Carter so clearly when Burton produces at least some of the rules don’t apply, but an undead horror action political flick with a hint of Burton… folks we may have a new genre here.

What haven’t we seen?

Mary Elizabeth Winstead. She had seven evil exes as Ramona Flowers in Scott Pilgrim vs the World. She took on an alien in The Thing. Now she’s the love interest, and in a recent interview she promised that she’s more than just the damsel in distress in this film.
