Riley CooperRiley Cooper:The former Florida receiver Riley Cooper has been selected in the fifth round of the NFL draft, the 159th overall pick.

The former Clearwater Central Catholic star was projected to be selected much earlier.

“Some in the league I thought it was worse than a third-round pick,”said ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper.

Cooper ended his career in Florida, with 81 receptions for 1.496 yards (18.5 avg.) And 18 touchdowns. Although he had been given the label as a possession receiver, analysts said Saturday that it is an unfair assessment.

“I like his competitive spirit,”ESPN Scouts Inc. director Todd McShay said. [Cooper believes that] ‘the ball is in the air, it’s mine.” He plays a lot of passes that are lost in the strike zone. I think Philadelphia has an interesting player.”

Cooper is the ninth player chosen in the Florida 2010 NFL draft, unless the school a 10 adopted in 1978.
