The event uses a wave start format to ensure the implementation Bellin is safe and enjoyable – and allows participants the opportunity for peak performance. Wave starts staggered starts consist of smaller groups rather than a great start. Runners are placed in one of the seven waves with a similar rate participants. Each wave has its own beginning with a brief interval between waves, reducing congestion.

The course is relatively flat, with the exception of a long downhill stretch on Greene Avenue. And the last mile has a lot of trees, providing shade for the participants.

Times are given at each point of miles and water stations are located at 1.8, 3.4, 4.7 and 5.7 miles distance. Medical personnel are available on the course for anyone who needs help.

After crossing the finish line, participants are redirected to Astor Park. On the way you get water and sports drinks, and you can remove the timing chip.

The National Weather Service said Friday that thunderstorms are possible today, but probably not before 1 pm, and there is a 40 percent chance of rain. The race of 6.2 miles – the culmination of two days of activities

On Saturday, near Webster Avenue Astor Park will be full of runners and spectators. But the 2010 Bellin 10k is a little different from recent years. Race coordinator Randy Van Stratten said the seven races wave group from 2009 has expanded to a group of waves eight races, with each group to take off three to five minute intervals.

Green Bay businessman Chris Knight is one of the 17 625. He runs, in part because there was a time when doctors thought she would lose her foot.

Van Stratten said that while this race year could be as many as 1,000 more riders than last year, not too big to handle.

“There are actually mathematical equations involved in career planning that allow so many people in a certain amount of square feet throughout the course. And that’s what we look for in each year,” said Van Stratten.
