Syracuse Scandal

Syracuse Scandal, When lawyer Gloria Allred takes on a new case, the battle gets fought in headlines and videos before she even steps into a courtroom.

“She uses whatever weapons she has, and I think her weapon is the media,” said Laurie Levenson, a law professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. “If you’ve got Gloria Allred on the other side, you have two battles to face: one in the courtroom and one outside the courtroom.”

Allred, who has represented women in sex scandals involving presidential candidate Herman Cain, golfer Tiger Woods and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, Tuesday jumped into the Syracuse University men’s basketball sex abuse scandal.

In the ballroom of a Seventh Avenue hotel in New York City, the Los Angeles attorney announced a lawsuit filed on behalf of two former ball boys who say SU head basketball coach Jim Boeheim defamed them last month while defending his longtime assistant coach Bernie Fine against child molestation claims.

Stepbrothers Bobby Davis and Michael Lang accused Fine of molesting them when they were minors. Boeheim called the two Central New York men “liars” and said they were just after money.

Boeheim’s retraction two weeks later was too little, too late, Allred said. “One of Syracuse’s most respected individuals had already told the world repeatedly that Bobby Davis and Michael Lang were nothing but liars and out for money and nothing else,” Allred said.
