Sylvania Netbook, Now MonkeyKing Liliputing reader has detected a new section on the website Coby with 7 different mini-laptops, including an 8-inch model, one with a 8.9 inch screen, 4-inch netbooks with 10 screens and a laptop 12 inches with an AMD Sempron processor.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that although each of these product pages laptop features a 7 online “Buy” button, there are currently no vendors listed, which means actually still can not buy these models. Nor can check the prices.
When I spoke with representatives of Coby earlier this year, I had the feeling that part of what has been holding the company back is the fact that profit margins on netbooks is already quite low. Coby normally can produce cheap goods, such as MP3 players or portable DVD players and lower prices than competitors’, making the manufacture of the house. But with netbooks of the major PC manufacturers already sell at ridiculous prices; there really is not much room for Coby to produce something much cheaper.
So if and when these netbooks do manage to go out, would not necessarily expect to fill the niche of notebooks and 100 … at least not unless Coby drop the Atom from Intel and AMD Sempron processors and Windows operating systems for ARM-based or VIA chips and Linux, Windows CE, or Google Android operating system. You know, something like that CVS Sylvania netbook is expected to begin offering for 100 and soon.
