Suspect In Charice’s Father Death Surrenders, The suspect in the stabbing death of the father of singer Charice Pempengco of the hit television series “Glee” was delivered on Thursday and admitted responsibility for the crime.
Angel Capili Jr. gave the chief of his village in General Trias town south of Manila, said Gilbert Cruz, chief of police in the nearby province of Laguna.
Police said Charice’s estranged 40-year-old father, construction worker Ricky Pempengco, was stabbed with an ice pick by a drunken man Monday after buying cigarettes in a store.
Capili said Cruz is also a construction worker, but did not know Pempengco.
Teen singer Charice canceled upcoming concerts and demanded justice for her father. She plays a recurring role on “Glee” as the sun Heart student exchange.
Capili told reporters in Manila that was full of remorse and ready to face the consequences.
“I had actually planned to give up, because what I did was wrong,” he told reporters. “I am seeking forgiveness from the family left behind by Mr. Pempengco. … I am willing to suffer all that is the sentence.”
However, did not respond when reporters asked why he stabbed the victim.
Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, who spoke to Capili, said the suspect said he was assaulted by Pempengco.
“He was saying that he was already back, but then (the victim) continued her attack so he got a screwdriver and stabbed Mr. Pempengco” Robredo said ABS-CBN television. “Let’s compare the account of witnesses with regard to the suspect.”
Charice said in a press conference on Thursday he could not forgive Capili because they seem genuinely sorry for what happened.
“I should not defend himself. You can not bring back my dad,” he said.
Charice flew back to the Philippines and paid tribute to her father early Wednesday. She also apologized for the cancellation of the remaining dates of her tour, saying that “my family comes first.” She had been scheduled to perform in Singapore.
“Whoever did this should be brought to justice. Justice must be served, not only for my father, but for everyone involved,” he said in a radio interview.
Charice said she still loved her father, though he left when she was 3 years old.
“It’s still my father, after all,” he wrote on Twitter.
The singer of 19 years of age, born Charmaine Clarice Pempengco Relucio is known throughout Asia, from concerts and television talent in the Philippines and South Korea.
