Survivor 2012 Cast

Survivor 2012 Cast, There are two kinds of TV viewers. There are those who don’t care for Survivor, who didn’t care from Day 1, and who go out of their way to tell anyone who will listen how little they care. These are often the same people who brag that they don’t watch TV, even though they do watch TV, or else they wouldn’t be able to talk about hockey, follow election results, or know what’s going on in the world.

And then there are those viewers who watch Survivor intently, even if they don’t care to admit it. Since Survivor’s debut on May 31, 2000 – yes, there have now been 23 seasons – it has consistently remained one of the most-watched weekly programs in Canada.

And when Survivor returns tonight for its 24th season, with the poetically, if somewhat misleadingly, named Survivor: One World, it’s easy to see why. There are those gorgeous tropical locations, for one. Survivor in February provides a vicarious break from the winter cold, snow and long, dark mornings, and a reminder that summer, or a quasi-summer, is not far away. Survivor: One World is based on the same Samoa beach where Survivor: South Pacific just concluded. The two tribes, the all-male Manono and all-female Salani, are named for Samoan reefs.

Then there is the curiosity factor, and the oddly unpredictable reflection on social behaviour. For, as formulaic and silly as Survivor often is – the reward challenges, the immunity challenges, the tribal councils and Jeff Probst’s innumerable intonations of, “The tribe has spoken” – it is still remarkably difficult to predict. No one would have predicted at the outset of Survivor: South Pacific that 22-year-old medical student Sophie Clarke from Willsboro, New York, would outwit, outplay and outlast a cast of type-A personalities, which included former players and fan favourites, Ozzy Lusth and Benjamin Wade, to win the $1-million prize. Hardly anyone would have predicted Clarke would win, even in the final two weeks, when the game was down to six players – including Wade and Lusth.
