Sugarhouse Casino, (AP) – The first casino in Philadelphia is open for business. The City of Brotherly Love became the largest U.S. city with a casino on Thursday, when the Sugarhouse Casino opened its doors after years of community protests and delays.

More than 1,000 players attended the opening in the afternoon to play the casino to 1,600 slot machines and 40 table games.

A small group of anti-casino protesters attended the opening. Casino-Free Philadelphia plans to continue with protests expected to affect business in the casino on the Delaware River waterfront.

With the opening Sugarhouse, Philadelphia goes to Detroit as the largest city in the nation with casino gambling.
