Steve Jobs Westboro Church

Steve Jobs Westboro Church, The passing of Penn State coaching legend Joe Paterno this past weekend has elicited plenty of reactions from just about everyone with access to a computer. Twitter and Facebook were flooded with final thoughts about a man with a complicated legacy. Traditional news outlets tried to paint a fair description of arguably the most respected college football coach of all-time until the final three months of his life. However it is impossible to ignore how much the last few months have tarnished his legacy, and may forever overshadow his accomplishments.

It’s been a rough time for everyone involved in the Penn State scandal. Sandusky’s victims are forced to relive some of the darkest moments of their lives. Former players question if there was anything they could have done differently to avoid this tragedy. Alumni are forced to deal with the embarrassment of deifying a man and a program who disclosed information regarding the rape of children. And current students were burdened with sheer distraction of it all, while simply trying to get an education in State College, PA.

Joe Paterno will most likely always be the winningest college football coach in division one history, however, he will also always be an accomplice to the biggest scandal in college sports history. It is hard give JoePa his due credit for what he accomplished at Penn State and simultaneously hold him accountable for his monumental lapses in judgement.

While many members of the media and millions of fans truly attempt to comprehend the complicated legacy of Joe Paterno, there is at least one group of mental midgets that hopes JoePa is burning in hell. Of course, I’m talking about the Westboro Baptist Church, who are best known for general hate mongering as well as picketing funerals of fallen members of the military, hmosxls, Michael Jackson and Steve Jobs. Now, according to the tweets of Margie Phelps, the daughter of Pastor Fred Phelps, the church will once again pick up and take their signs — this time to the final resting place of Joe Paterno.

While backlash at the passing of Paterno was to be expected, these nutcases at Westboro Baptist are so childish and full of hate it’s disgusting. Most reasonable people agree that Paterno keeping Sandusky’s diddling a secret and willfully letting the administration sweep his actions under the rug was incredibly immoral and wrong. But what do you accomplish by protesting a dead man’s funeral other than getting your name in newspaper and your face on the nightly news?
