Stephen Harper Accused, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Monday he was unaware of how his former superiors with Bruce Carson was convicted of fraud and received psychiatric treatment order before returning to his office in 2006 – stressing that it would not have hired if he had been aware of this.

“The fact is, I did not know about these revelations that we find ourselves today,” said the Prime Minister. “I do not know why I did not know. Obviously, we’re going to go back and look at our system. The PCO will have to review its systems to ensure that these things get caught. If I know these things, I obviously would not have hired. ”

Harper made the comments during a news conference following a report, which revealed details about the past Carson. A report from the Canadian Press revealed that Carson was convicted of five counts of fraud – three more than previously known – and his lawyer said he had disclosed his criminal record as a whole during a check of Government Security.NTQuMTQ1Ljk1LjE0OQ==

Convictions for fraud in 1990 resulting from the rental of a Toyota vehicle from a car rental company, and to defraud two different banks. Carson would have pleaded guilty and was sentenced to pay a portion of the funds, and received 24 months probation on condition he continues to receive psychiatric treatment. At the time, he worked as a researcher at the Library of Parliament.

Stephen Harper accused his mandarins at the top to keep him in ignorance of new details about the troubled past of a former confidant who has previously worked for the Prime Minister and took a place at the forefront of classified information.

Harper’s fingers Privy Council Office – the arm of bureaucratic office of the Prime Minister – not to pass along the results of a mandatory safety check by the RCMP and CSIS would have uncovered the whole criminal file Bruce Carson and court-appointed psychiatric treatment.

“The Privy Council gave him a security clearance. The fact is that I did not know about these revelations that we see today. I do not know why I do not know,” Harper said on Monday campaign swing through the Niagara region of Ontario.

“If I had known about these things, I obviously would not have hired.”

The new coordinates are the convictions of five counts of fraud – three more than originally reported when the salacious story of Carson, and his bride of 22 years old escort was made public last month.

Harper was aware of some legal trouble of Carson in the early 1980s – including being jailed and disbarred by the Law Society for defrauding clients – but said he was under the impression that his former counsel had cleaned his life and moved on a successful career in and around Parliament Hill.

“He worked on Parliament Hill for many decades. He had a good reputation. He even worked for the Parliament itself – the Library of Parliament. He was well regarded.”

The CPM has called the RCMP last month after the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network reported allegations Carson may have illegally lobbied the federal government on behalf of a company that employed his now fiancee.

Carson worked as a policyanlyst in chief of Harper until his resignation in 2008.

Harper noted that the troubles of the end of Carson have nothing to do with his tenure in the Prime Minister, but ordered a review of how employees are screened.
