St. Louis And Terry FranconaSt. Louis And Terry Francona, Former Red Sox, Terry Francona, is part of a group of “under 10″ candidates the St. Louis Cardinals hope to interview to replace Tony La Russa, according to a report in the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

According to the report, Francona and long Cardinals third base coach Jose Oquendo are among those covered. The Cardinals have also received permission to interview Hall of Fame Cubs base of second and current Phillies minor league manager Ryne Sandberg.

Committee of the search team will begin the process of the interview on Thursday.

General manager John Mozeliak would not comment on specific candidates, but according to the report, Mozeliak also plans to interview director Chris Maloney Memphis, minor league instructor and former Gold Glove catcher Mike Matheny and Chicago White Sox Coach Joe McEwing, citing sources familiar with the process.

Francona is the only one of the six candidates listed in the major leagues prior management experience.
