October 29, 2010 by staff

Gypsy Rose Lee, From its beginnings as a form of musical and theatrical parody, burlesque has traditionally played the margins of society. Since the early underground burlesque has flourished and is now experiencing a resurgence as performance art. Inspired by the pioneers of the likes of Gypsy Rose Lee and Sally Rand, a new generation of artists such as Dita Von Teese and Dirty Martini have emerged to fill the feather fan.

The Hangman7, a collective of seven photographers Artists Network, will present his unique photographic views in the world of burlesque, exploring the boundaries between naughty and nice fade. With images from the 2010 burlesque festival performance, including Toronto and Montreal Festival of Burlesque, the exhibition is an exploration of the new burlesque.
