Spanish National Radio said. The earthquake of 5.3 magnitudes struck at 4:47 pm (10:47 am EST) and was centered about 50 kilometers (31 miles) southwest of Murcia, near the Mediterranean coast, U.S. UU. Geological Survey said.

That is about 350 kilometers (218 miles) south-southeast of Madrid. It was preceded at 3:05 pm by an earthquake of 4.5 magnitude centered in the same area, according to the survey. At least one death occurred in a building collapse in the town of Lorca, state EFE said.
