Social Security Payments

Social Security Payments, Social Security Administration and makes 6.5 billion in overpayments to persons not entitled to receive in 2009, including and $ 4 million under a supplemental income program for the poor, a government investigator said Tuesday. In total, about 10 percent of payments made by the Agency’s Supplemental Security Income were incorrect, said Patrick P. O’Carroll Jr., inspector general of Social Security. He told a congressional panel that most overpayments were people who did not report all their assets. The error rates were much smaller for retirement, survivor and disability, which constitute the vast majority of Social Security payments, he said.
