Slogans, Before Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman were nominated as candidates still in the race for governor of California, Republicans and Democrats began groups plotting attacks in each of them. The Republican Governors Association has created a clever site called “whatsbrowndone” and labeled the Democrats of California billionaire former eBay CEO Whitman, who poured more and $ 100 million of his own money into the race, as someone I was essentially trying to “Buy Now”, a phrase popularized by Whitman led the company as it became a global giant and one of the success stories of dot-com era. These issues proved to be prophetic.

Despite having a war chest that never empties, Whitman faces many obstacles. First, California has rejected the candidates who have been ostentatiously, as Michael Huffington.

Second, Democrats in California, largely due to anti-immigrant policies and rhetoric espoused by former Gov. Pete Wilson, Republicans significantly beyond the state. Wilson Whitman presided during the primary campaign, but Whitman is to keep your distance from him in the general election, it is likely that a less favorable view among Latinos than George W. Bush is among African Americans, Whitman can be hurt at the polls if galvanized Hispanics consider policies targeting and discrimination against them (more on that later).

Third, Whitman is a candidate for the first time, and yet it is also an advantage in a year when voters are fed up with politicians, she – and her team of communication – not smooth running of campaigns. Whitman has made some rookie blunders that may need to write more checks to his campaign. She was caught on tape in a rare press in northern California, where he refused to answer questions from the media. She was not the meeting of the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle, becoming the statewide candidate for the first time in recent history to not attend the annual tradition. She misses criticized the candidate he defeated, the more conservative Steve Poizner, after the primary was over. And leaked footage shows a city council that was in Orange County, appeared to be organized for a campaign ad.

underlying theme of his campaign, but vague slogans detailed policies, is that she can turn around California as she managed eBay’s success. However, she has found, sometimes, as cold and distant CEO that does not seem to much but herself.

And then there’s Jerry Brown, the youngest governor of California, which is also trying to become its oldest – flamboyant and unpredictable, and crazy as ever. But this year against the owner, those really quirky qualities can help establish Brown shed his image with voters.

Brown the right question, of course, would in fact be “what Brown did.” As in, what Brown does in this campaign to show voters that actually has a pulse. Perhaps the former governor has been saving his money, knowing that would maximize the bang for your buck against Whitman. Maybe he is assuming that there are enough registered Democrats to put on top against any Republican. Or perhaps to be as distant as it has been stereotyped.

However, in this election cycle, which has won more titles to take a picture of her nemesis Bill Clinton (who, in turn, has supported Brown) who has to define itself, this race, or Whitman. political actors have questioned whether Brown believes that the demographics of California’s Democratic majority is sufficient for him to coast to victory. If voters that Brown is taking this election for granted, it could cost.

And, of course, you can not write about California politics without talking about sensationalism, tabloids, and the Hispanic vote, that all came to a head the day after the gubernatorial debate first, in which Whitman was ready, though a bit cold, while Brown was eccentric, but charming. The next day, the infamous lawyer Gloria Allred held a press conference with former housekeeper Whitman, Nick Diaz, saying that Whitman and her husband knew that Diaz was an illegal immigrant, while his employee. Diaz said that while Whitman was a “no-match Social Security letter, knowing your job until it became politically inconvenient to do so. Whitman camp says that Brown is working in cahoots with Allred and exploitation and utilization of Diaz, which the Brown campaign strongly denies.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see how Whitman’s advisers, who have not been more agile of this election cycle, its out of this mess without having to turn out Hispanic voters and without it reinforces his image as a rich, out of political touch whose values are not consistent with Californians who are struggling.

Brown, meanwhile, participated in a mini-controversy of his own as one of his advisers (some observers claim that it was his wife) was overheard in a phone call saying the word “btch”, referring to Whitman potentially be purchased by organizations of law enforcement. The conversation was filtered and the Whitman campaign tried every ounce of juice capital of the same. And even more tepid apology from Brown to be associated with the commentary, this flap is potentially less harmful than Whitman’s many problems with their former employees.

With all of California’s fiscal problems, some may wonder why anyone would even that work. For Brown, it can be a feather in the cap of a political career floors. You might think that can rule this time with anyone but the people of California to respond. As mentioned in the first debate, he’s too old to run for anything else.

For Whitman, the stakes are higher. If elected, automatically vaults in the Republican Party and the national stratosphere. If successful in the transformation of California around, she could be on a national ticket.
