Shrek Virus, BeautifulPeople.com, dating web site that only accepts members who pass a degree of appeal, states that have been affected by a virus. Computer security and data protection company Sophos has challenged these claims after a press release issued by the website, stating that “Shrek” virus made it possible for “30,000″ ugly “people” to join the site without going through the usual approval process attractive.
Greg Hodge, managing director of BeautifulPeople said at the press release:
“We have suspicions when tens of thousands of new members were accepted into a period of six weeks, many of which were oil painting.”
“We responded immediately to repair the damage caused by the ‘Virus Shrek’ and put each new member again in the classification module for the legitimate and democratic vote. The result is that we have lost more than 30,000 members recently.
“We sincerely regret the unfortunate people who were wrongly entered on the site and believed, even for a short time, they were beautiful. There must be a hard pill to swallow, but you better have a little piece of heaven then never I have tried at all. ”
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos, wonders why the site has not been any need to inform the security company on the malware, and raises an eyebrow in the quiet of the members of the privacy and security has never was raped.
“BeautifulPeople announced that a former employee put the malware before leaving the team. Just all seems a little too convenient that this” malware “has generated an enormous amount of publicity for the site, without causing any problems for current and future members’ said Cluley. “If the history of BeautifulPeople is a virus Shrek is true, I’m the spitting image of Brad Pitt’s company has made impressive publicity stunts in the past, and this is just the latest -. Designed in a context of headlines news about big business versus the real issues of security violations. ”
