Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s 550 million users. And the film paints an unflattering portrait of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who created much controversy in the media, and as they say, any press is good press.
Adult dramas rarely attract crowds for midnight screenings, and they rarely sell indices days before the opening of a film. But this may be just a single adult drama. Today I realized the Arclight Theater in Hollywood, and the midnight screening had already sold out, and screenings of several this weekend are already full.
The film does not break the records that make comic movies, but it should be and put some 28 million this weekend. We are expecting a good performance in the fall, and to draw some 75 million in total United States. It is a good return for Sony, considering that the film cost an estimated 50 million and should have a strong international appeal.
Films about people sitting in front of computers still a mortal risk being boring. But the dialogue comes fast to “Social Network” to be more on inter-personal friending the site closed.
And Sony wanted to get core fans on Facebook. The hosted 350 screenings across the country, including a visit by stopping 25 of colleges, as well as meetings and projections for technology blogs like Mashable, hedge funds and entrepreneurs.
Sony and Aaron Sorkin insist that the film is very grounded in reality. In response, Facebook laughs and calls it “pure fiction.” Earlier this week, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg said quietly: “I saw the movie. It’s Hollywood. It is fiction. Mark and I were joking that his real life is he and his friends sat in their jeans, coding, order a pizza…. It is simply not interesting enough for a Hollywood movie. “
