Shawne Merriman, The only puts the Broncos this week has been changing a practice squad player, releasing defensive lineman Jeff Stehle and bring back the former Alcorn State star Lee Robinson, a linebacker who was with the Broncos Last year at training camp.
Not exactly what fans had hoped Broncos.
Little did the world know that the NFL Chargers have been drawn upon signing Barnes to their active roster? Mainly with bumps and bruises, San Diego Shawne Merriman sent to the reserve / injured list, and through a set of circumstances, it must now be published whenever it is healthy.
In essence, “Light Out” was released by the Chargers in San Diego, and is free to sign with any team when he is healthy. While I was hot on setting Antwan Barnes, when I saw that Merriman was available, I’m all lit up. I do not know that it will be the savior of the defense for the Broncos, but it’s pretty rare for a player of his caliber would be available at this stage of the season.
Is the Broncos look to Merriman to help solve some of their pass rush woes?
The disadvantage of signing Merriman is no doubt his story. He has been in trouble with the league on one or two occasions, has a history of injuries, and honestly has not been productive in recent years.
Merriman has not been right since he missed the entire 2008 season with a knee injury, but it is worth it for the Denver Broncos.
Robert Ayers went down with a broken foot, and the team lost Elvis Dumervil in training camp. The rush to pass poorly was available even with Ayers on the edge, then one wonders what the result will be without him. While one could argue that the Broncos just blitz more, I think at least part of the problem is personal.
Merriman could be very useful for the Broncos in the short term, possibly years in the long term as well. If he came and played decent, the Broncos could award a new contract and keep it in a ball carrier goes out of rotation, or they can exchange cons additional peaks in the draft this year next.
Anyway, they need him more than ever now and then they have to play the Jets, it is possible that they may have it for every game afterwards and I think they would be wise to make the move. Merriman will undoubtedly have a chip on his shoulder, and it could provide some Intel on chargers for the Broncos’ two games against them this season.
Also, I think it would be wise to Darrell Reid when he is healthy, as the Broncos are not only taken in the department of art happening, but on special teams where Reid was a good player.
Dumervil with Ayers for the year and for six weeks, Merriman and Reid would be two additions to the Broncos could certainly ease some of the pain.
