Sharon Tate Ring Sells
December 14, 2011 by staff
The gold ruby ring Roman Polanski allegedly gave Tate after proposing to the star in 1967 recently went under the hammer, with auction bosses behind the Gotta Have Rock and Roll pop culture memorabilia sale claiming Tate was wearing the piece when she was killed by Charles Manson and his followers in 1969.
The authenticity of the ring was later called into question by Tate’s sister Debra, who refuted the claims and insisted her sibling wasn’t wearing any jewellery at the time of her murder as her fingers had swollen during pregnancy, but auction house officials ultimately produced a letter signed by director Polanski to back up the claim.
And now the piece has been sold to a mystery bidder for $21,260 – well over the $10,000 starting bid, according to TMZ.com.
