Just as Shannon Sharpe is about to become the fourth player from the Broncos elected to the Hall of Fame, former tight end has been locked in a legal battle.
Sharpe has taken a leave of absence from his job as a NFLanlyst for CBS in the light of an allegation of sexual assault levied against him.
Atlanta-Fulton County Superior Court has granted a temporary restraining order against Sharpe following a complaint lodged by Michele Bundy in the category of “domestic violence.”
Bundy in his petition alleged that Sharpe threatened his life and forced her to have sex. A protective order hearing is set for Monday.
Sharpe, who has not been arrested or charged with a crime, could not be reached for comment.
In a statement, said, “I have decided to step aside from the NFL today (show) until this matter is resolved.”
CBS spokesman LeslieAnne Wade said the network welcomed the decision of Sharpe.
Sharpe legal battle, however, can not hurt their chances for football immortality. The Hall of Fame bylaws state contributions only one player in the field should be considered.
