Shannon Meehan | USsPost.com:Shannon Meehan, a former Iraqi Army captain and veteran of the War, has thrown their hat in the race for State Representative 163rd District Pennsylvania (D). Mr. Sheehan is also co-author of “beyond duty: Life On The Front Line”, with Roger Thompson, a detailed review of Sheehan’s experiences in Iraq as a tank platoon leader of 1st Cavalry Division. The American Legion Post No. 358. in Clifton Heights, a crowd of Democrats and veterans, Meehan said:
“While these plans I have, and can not be fully articulated at this point, I’m sure I can conjure up some quick phrases in each of them, some bullet points that can be unpleasant to look good in sound bites for the morning newspapers if I stood here and said with confidence. I can not. I can not do that. And I can not stand here and pretend to have all the answers, because I know they do not. No I can pretend that may require a plan to solve all our struggles. The best I can do is show what I am, exactly, and show the man I’ve become, really.
During his service to our Nation, Meehan was left with a traumatic brain injury and damage to nerves in the back, due to a device IED (Improvised Expolsive). He has been diagnosed as suffering from PTSD. In this connection, reports:
Lt. Shannon Meehan was a decorated tank commander who displayed exceptional leadership skills during his tour of duty in Iraq. In one mission, when they were clearing a house from the danger zone around the house, called an air strike on a suspected insurgent location. The continued throughout the procedure and even went further, sending speakers and translators directly in front of the house to warn everyone inside to leave. Despite the visual identification, Intel local loudspeaker warnings, the worst happened. The precision guided bombs destroyed a house with a family inside. Beyond the duty is the story of Lieutenant Meehan has been struggling with the consequences of his decision.
Speaking outside the “political” as a veteran myself, I commend Meeham for his service to our nation, and only wish him well in his endeavors.
Meehan is facing 32 years corresponds state Rep. Nick Micozzi, R-163 of Upper Darby, who also announced his candidacy for re-election Monday.
