The driver, once banned was transferred to a medical center in Indianapolis. Once there, Hmiel was in critical condition, placed in an induced coma and was treated.
It was initially unresponsive at the scene of the accident.
According to race officials, Hmiel flipped his car in two rounds before reaching the roll cage on the wall.
It was reported several hours after Hmiel was awake, having suffered a broken back and a broken neck, which broke in two places. After waking, it was also reported that Hmiel was able to move his arms a little.
