Severe Gale Force Winds
December 8, 2011 by staff
Severe Gale Force Winds, Christmas lights, chimney pots and billboards have all fallen victim to the gale-force winds battering the north-east. Nobody was hurt when large Christmas lights came down in Aberdeen’s city centre on Thursday afternoon.
The busy Market Street was closed briefly after a chimney stack was blown onto the street. On Victoria Road traffic lights, an advertising sign and chimney pots were all blown over in the high winds. A large tree has fallen and is blocking Garthdee Road while emergency services try to remove it.
Part of the pavement on Union Street, between Back Wynd and Belmont Street, has been closed because of structural concerns about a building there.
Significant traffic problems are being caused after Victoria Bridge, Leslie Terrace and Powis Terrace were blocked by advertising billboards being blown down onto the road.
