Serena Williams Espy, Dirk Nowitzki and his teammates felt so well that exploded in another version of “We Are The Champions.” It was definitely a fun night to be a member of the Dallas Mavericks. Nowitzki received a pair of trophies, including male athlete of the year, and the Mavericks were chosen as the best team in the Wednesday night at the ESPY awards.
Nowitzki also won best NBA player during ESPN’s live broadcast from the Nokia Theatre. Rick Carlisle was named the best coach to lead the Mavericks to the NBA championship.

SNL comedian Seth Myers hosted the show for the second consecutive year. He opened the telecast, joking about the NFL and NBA lockouts before making some excavations in the Miami Heat. Then cracked a few jokes about the election of Brian Wilson’s exclusive clothing.
The always-eccentric Wilson would have won the prize for best dressed athlete, had there been one. All eyes were on the San Francisco Giants close as he walked the red carpet in a tuxedo spandex full body, with black high tops and a cane.
“Justin Bieber could have caught fire and have not had a team crazier than Brian Wilson,” Myers told reporters.
Fresh from leading the Bruins to their first Stanley Cup crown in 39 years, Boston goalie Tim Thomas won for the best performance of the championship and best player in the NHL.
“It’s been a month, but still really has not sunk in what it means for the city and the entire area of?? New England,” said Thomas.
Roy Halladay of Philadelphia took home two awards. The ace of the Phillies won the best MLB player and best moments of their playoff no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds.
Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin, who burst onto the scene by winning Rookie of the Year, was chosen as athlete’s progress. Griffin won the dunk contest at All-Star weekend by jumping over a Kia Optima to seal the crown.
Vonn professed to have “Bieber fever” during her acceptance speech.
“Justin Bieber, takes a picture of me on my Facebook page?” asked the pop star as he sat in the audience.

Super Bowl MVP Rodgers was honored as the best player in the NFL and Serena Williams won for best female tennis player.
